In the early nineties, two optical disc storage formats were being developed; the Multimedia Compact Disc, and the Super Density disc. The Technical Working Group (a group of computer industry experts from Dell, Apple, Microsoft, and Sun) declared they would boycott both formats unless the two decided upon a single, combined standard. Eventually, the MMCD and SD combined to create Digital Video Disc or DVD.
