Every time you sit down to watch a ball game, a movie or your favorite TV show on your big screen LCD TV, you see that big long scratch, which is the left over remnants of an intense Guitar Hero battle, or maybe from when you moved the TV from your old apartment. No matter the reason, TV expert, Chris Gastin from TV Troubleshooting Dot Net reveals how easily it is to remove scratches from a LCD screen.
First, you want to prepare the cleaning solution. You will need a 3.5% solution of rubbing alcohol. Typically in the United States, rubbing alcohol is a 70% solution, so you will need to dilute 1 part of alcohol with 20 parts of water. You can do this by mixing 0.5 ounces of rubbing alcohol with 10 ounces of distilled water.
Once the cleaning solution is prepared, it is now time to perform the pre-cleaning step. Clean the damaged area of the screen with clean distilled water, and a clean cotton swab. While you are cleaning the damaged area, be very gentle, do not apply heavy pressure, and be very thorough with the cleaning job. You will want to begin cleaning the scratched area itself, and extend the cleaning to a diameter twice the length of the scratch.
Now it is time to begin removing the scratch. First, dampen another clean cotton swab with the alcohol solution. Carefully and gently work the solution into the scratch, while at the same time applying light pressure not to damage the LCD screen. Be sure to keep close to the scratched area. This could take some time, so continue the gentle, light pressured, working motion until the scratch disappears. The diluted alcohol solution should dissolve the anti-glare coating on the screen, so it fills in the scratched area.
Finally, it is time to remove the alcohol. You can do this by gently buffing the area with distilled water and another clean cotton swab. Once you have cleared all the alcohol then dry of the area completely. If the scratch is not completely removed then double the strength and try again (1 ounce of alcohol to 10 ounces of distilled water). Keep doing this until you reach 35% strength (5 ounces of alcohol to 10 ounces of distilled water. Do not try anything strong than 35% strength because this could damage the LCD screen. If it ever smudges then stop immediately!
