Can I connect Bose Speakers with Onkyo Receiver?
Question:
Hey All,
I have an Onkyo HT-SR600 system and am thinking of replacing the Onkyo speakers with the Bose Cubes. Do you think my receiver will be able to power the Bose? Will it be worth spending money on the speakers only or should I just wait and keep saving money for the whole Bose system, like Bose Lifestyle 38 series??? I will greatly appreciate your feedback. Thank you all in advance.
Answer: Your onkyo receiver will power a bose speaker system just fine because the acoustimass comes with a cable that can connect it to any component receiver on the market, and that's how those speakers are to be used anyway. The lifestyle system with the regular cube speakers can be connected with regular speaker wire, but they're designed to be used with a certain crossover & equalization that only the bose bass module does. However, you couldn't connect the jewel cubes without a special adapter that can be bought on ebay for about $5 each. But again, they need special sound processing from the bass module.
It's really up to you whether you want to spend money on the acoustimass system. The acoustimass 16 with your onkyo will probably sound comparable to the LS38. Contrary to what most people say, you have every right to like bose better than something else. Just because other stuff sounds better to them doesn't mean it sounds better to everybody. It's called personal taste, and almost everybody's taste is different. Plus, bose makes great looking stuff, compared to a lot of other boxy looking speakers.
